Live with Meredith – 2025 – 3/4

In this Live with Meredith session, Meredith shared a fun recap of Lane’s birthday party, highlighting the excitement of hosting ten energetic boys. The afternoon was packed with games, including an airplane toss, a can-rolling challenge, a fast-paced mummy wrap, and a precision ball-rolling game. Brian took on the role of coach, while Meredith’s dad kept score. After medals were awarded, the party wrapped up with cupcakes and free play before parents arrived to pick up their kids. Once the cleanup was finished, Meredith admitted she was exhausted!

She also answered a variety of questions from signers:

  • How do you sign “so” in “I am so happy”? → Facial expression is key to conveying emphasis.
  • What signs make up “teacher’s assistant”? → The sign consists of TEACH+AGENT-MARKER and ASSIST/AID+AGENT-MARKER.
  • What are common ways to sign “dog”? → The most common sign is fingerspelling D-G with a snapping motion, but patting the leg is another well-known variation.
  • How do you sign “glue”? → Both GLUE and fingerspelled #GLUE are used.
  • What’s a good way to sign “get over it”? → The sign ACCEPT works well in this context.
  • What classifier would be used for a pickleball? → Meredith suggested fingerspelling pickleball, signing BALL with the mouth morpheme ‘Oooo’ (to indicate small size), and then using CL:C in one hand with CL:F to show the holes.
  • What’s the sign for “story”? → She explained two common variations:
    • Using an F-handshape with a twisting motion.
    • Using the whole hand in the same twisting motion.
She noted that these signs can carry slightly different meanings, such as “story” versus “comment.”

Meredith also discussed how and when she gathers questions for live sessions and encouraged signers to participate in upcoming silent chats.
