Turn Your ASL Vocabulary into Real Conversations

Join us for a hands-on ASL Conversations Mini-Intensive, a 3-hour live course happening on Saturday, April 18, led by Sarah Martindale, Deaf ASL educator, and Meredith Rathbone, experienced ASL teacher and interpreter.

Many students learn lots of ASL signs but feel unsure when it’s time to actually start a conversation. This Mini-Intensive is designed to bridge that gap.

In this live session, you’ll practice real, practical conversations and learn how to move beyond isolated vocabulary into natural communication. You’ll learn how to:

✔ Start and maintain basic ASL conversations with confidence

✔ Respond naturally during common everyday interactions

✔ Use vocabulary you already know in practical conversation settings

✔ Practice signing through guided activities and real-time interaction

This is not just a lecture—you’ll have the opportunity to practice signing during the course so you leave with greater confidence and real conversational experience.

Seats are limited, so don’t miss this chance to strengthen your ASL skills with expert guidance.

About Your Teachers

Sarah Martindale

Deaf ASL Educator

Sarah became Deaf at the age of 4 after contracting spinal meningitis. In 1994, she graduated from Texas Christian University with a BA in Deaf Education and later earned her master’s degree in School Counseling in 1998.

She spent five years in the classroom as a middle school Deaf Education teacher and three years as a School Counselor serving Deaf students from kindergarten through 12th grade. After several years as a stay-at-home mom, Sarah returned to education in 2015 to teach American Sign Language at the secondary level.

Sarah has a passion for teaching ASL and sharing her experiences as a Deaf person. She encourages students to ask questions and engage in open conversations about ASL and Deaf culture. In her classes, students not only learn the language but also gain insight into what it means to live and communicate as a Deaf person.

Students especially enjoy hearing Sarah’s personal stories and learning directly from her lived experience.

Meredith Rathbone

ASL Teacher / Interpreter

Meredith has over 20 years of ASL second language experience. She holds a M.Ed. in Special Education with an emphasis in Deaf and Hard of Hearing and a B.A. in ASL to English Interpretation. She is a nationally certified education interpreter and a state certified ASL teacher.

Meredith began her career as a full-time educational interpreter while also taking on community interpreting assignments such as doctor’s appointments, job interviews, and other real-world settings. She continues her interpreting practice by volunteering at her church.

She taught ASL at the high school level for 10 years and has also served as an adjunct professor at the college level. Meredith is the co-owner of Learn How to Sign LLC with her husband Brian and is the primary instructor and on-screen teacher for the Learn How to Sign courses and videos.

Meredith is passionate about helping students build confidence in ASL and develop real communication skills they can use in everyday conversations.
