Enroll for an exciting and immersive course that will unlock the world of music through American Sign Language (ASL). This course is a unique opportunity to learn how to take a song, write an ASL gloss, and express its emotional depth and lyrical beauty through the medium of sign language. Your instructor, Meredith, will lead you through an exploration of four distinct songs spanning various genres, including pop, country, worship, and rap.

Learn How to Sign Music!

This course is for anyone wanting to learn how to take the ASL you know and apply it to being able to perform or interpret music. This is not a beginner ASL course, but if you are a beginner and want to learn about how to sign music this course could still be beneficial to learn the method of signing music.

Students will learn how to sign sign the 4 songs covered in the course and receive a PDF of the ASL Gloss. Each student will have 1 assignment at the conclusion of the course. Sign the song of your choice and present it to the other students via Padlet.
A student should not expect to be able to sign any song without a pre-existing knowledge of the ASL signs necessary.

By the end of this course, you’ll not only have a deeper understanding of how to interpret songs in ASL but also the ability to infuse them with your unique expression, making music accessible to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community like never before. Don’t miss this exceptional opportunity to merge the power of music and sign language.

What is an ASL Gloss? A written or typed approximation of ASL typically using English words as “labels” for each sign along with various grammatical notes.
